The Original Floral Centerpiece

A friend sent the most gorgeous Christmas centerpiece. It was stunning. The fresh flowers were so pretty - and brightened up our dark winter days. We enjoyed the cheerful, colorful piece all through the holidays.

After the holidays, the fresh flowers were - well - no longer fresh. The arrangement had been so pretty, I hated to part with it. I removed the flowers, and set the piece aside until I could decide what to do with it.

I recycled it into a beautiful bouquet that was used in my daughter’s bridal shower, and in my home.

Strong Need To Brighten Things Up

Days were getting colder. Very cold. Our cat deep dived into his cozy blanket. I thought more about that beautiful centerpiece. How could I save it? It was a nice piece, plus I thought of my friend whenever I looked at it.

Solution - Recycle!

I looked over the floral piece (flowers now removed) and realized there were many items that could still be used.

box container (I really loved the rustic wood style box)

floral foam - It just needed to be thoroughly dried. NOTE: if you are using fresh flowers, you must use WET foam (foam you can get wet for the flowers). Dry foam is cheaper, but can only be used for dried or artificial flowers.

pinecones

ribbon

The piece looked a bit sparse, now that the flowers were gone, but the items remaining were so pretty! I just had to save it!

The greenery was beginning to dry out; I knew I would need to replace that.

Steps To Recycling My Floral Centerpiece

I removed everything from the wood box. I allowed the floral foam to thoroughly dry out. I also removed the plastic in the bottom of the box. Once the box and all other items were dry, I searched through my dried and artificial flowers left over from previous projects.

I placed the foam back into the box. Then I placed the ribbon and pinecones. I cut the artificial flower stems to fit, and inserted them into the floral foam.

I love my new centerpiece! And I think of my friend whenever I look at it.
